Tapestry - January 31, 2010 - Losing ReligionIt's a really careful, sympathetic, yet harrowing story.
William Lobdell was the last person anyone would expect to lose his faith. The journalist hit rock bottom in his 20s. But his life turned around when he became a born-again Christian. Lobdell prayed for his dream job, as the religion reporter at one of the biggest papers in the U.S. Miraculously, he got it. He was winning awards for his stories about faith; life was good. Then something happened. William Lobdell tells Mary how his faith came crashing down.

Wow, telling Jesus' own mother that he just wasn't that into her son must've been pretty difficult.
Sometimes God tells you no.
And sometimes he tells you he hates you.
The piece describes his gung-ho start and then his efforts to come to grips with the stories of gang-raping priest.

Let's face it, you people are stuffed.
I know I'm stating the obvious, but if you told the story of the christian bible to a dood who WASN'T indoctrinated into religious dogma from birth, dood's first reaction would be something along the lines of:
"Nah. Don't go with it. Spiderman is more believable and holds together better in the middle. You oughta just stick with spiderman."
Agreed, it's a hash job mikey. Too many writers, too much effort to compromise with other points of view, too much incorporation of unrelated material, trying for commercial appeal...
Hey! The Christian Religion is a Michael Bay Movie!
And lo, Megan Fox did lean over the hood of a car.
