There's no getting away from it.

Fortunately it lives at my mother's house. She seems nostalgic about American-built vehicles.

they are all American-built now anyways.

It's the American production design where they go wrong.

They do excel at giving owners the shaft.

Ever since I quit with the porsches (a careful statistical analysis led me to discover that driving a porsche DID, in fact, get me laid occasionally, but at an average cost of $36,000 per event) I've been a hardcore Nissan man. They just keep seeming to be really great cars, that do all the crap they're supposed to, and include fairly advanced technology that actually works.

Although I like to call them "Datsuns" because it makes people look at you like they are a dog hearing something they cannot account for...

I had a Datsun once, bright orange. The only thing that stopped it was multiple accidents.

Same for the Nissan that followed it, although it had the shittiest turning radius of any small car I've ever driven.

At least it's not the Jeep Compass.

Jalopnik describes the Jeep Compass: "Remember that Oprah episode where she gave away a bunch of Pontiac G6s? Remember how depressed you felt when you heard about it? Think about that feeling, then eat an entire container of pistachio Häagen-Dazs while watching the Mandy Moore flick 'A Walk To Remember.' You have now driven a Jeep Compass."

I had a Datsun B210 wagon. I wore out two clutches before I gave it away with 150K miles on it.

piffle. I had an AMC hornet that went 120,000 miles.

If you know anything about AMC cars, you will recognize the miracle.

My folks had a Hornet. You must have reanimated that car to keep it running.

Fuji Heavy Industries makes a good small SUV.
