The Definition of Calamity

Via Big Hollywood, Col. Brian Salas:
Lost amid the staggering commercial success of “Avatar” and obscured by the punditry of the left and right as they debate James Cameron’s social and historical commentary are the real warriors whose heroism, valor and selfless service has allowed the U.S. to leave a war in Iraq that many in 2006 thought was unwinnable and indeed salvage success from the jaws of calamity.
Yessir, it looked like killing all those people and ruining a country wasn't going to work out, BUT IT HAS. Thanks to people with guns.

Hmm. I'd sure like to hear just exactly how the invasion and occupation of Iraq can be classified as a success.

They couldn't make us leave until we WANTED to? Wow. The success of a rude dinner guest...

Not 'people with guns'. Warrior Scholars with guns.
Like Obi Wan and those guys. Which is like, NOT in that movie.
Col. Salas I think it is supposed to be "sophmoric' as part of the demongraphics and that.

Did "we" leave Iraq earlier this a. m., while I was sleeping?

I think we declared victory in Irackeystan at the same time we found out that the Obamacrats had failed (in the future, but nonetheless at the same time) in Afghaniraq.

Ask Dave Broder and Fred Hiatt if you are unclear in these conceptualizations.

success from the jaws of calamity

I'll admit that the original "Jaws" does not bear up well to repeat viewing, but a calamity??? I think not.
Possibly "Shells" the story of the rampaging shellfish of Roanoke could be called a clamity.

Weapons not food, not homes, not shoes
Not need, just feed the war cannibal animal
I walk tha corner to tha rubble that used to be a library
Linin' to the mind cemetery now
What we don't know keeps tha contractors alive an movin'
They don't gotta burn tha books they just remove 'em
While arms warehouses fill as quick as tha cells
They Rally round tha family with a pocket full of shells

Rally 'round the family with a pocket fulla shells...
