You Already Know This

Sensible people read Whiskey Fire, so you all know that The Washington Post has a pundit contest going.

Key rule:
Entries will be judged on the basis of style, intelligence and freshness of argument, but not on whether Post editors agree or disagree with your point of view.

I liked Ioz's entry.

I'm having regrets.

I wrote a piece about Iran sanctions that was about as powerful and thoughtful as you can do in 400 words.

But now it's becoming obvious that instead of writing a compelling position piece or a persuasive argument for or against a particular course of action what you needed to do was be clever, throw in a little word play, a smart turn-of-phrase, cleverness substituting for thoughtfulness, and something of a foot-fault on the snarkline.

Maybe I should try again under an alias...

If the Kaplan testing company went bust, would we be spared the WaPo?

Purchase of Kaplan is the the only reason this house of corporate propaganda and poop hasn't gone bust.

Honest to gawd, they're just begging for abuse. Do they never read their comments sections, which always go about 500-1 against whichever neo-con cretin is typing?

What do they expect they'll get, the next David Broder? Not bloody likely.

I know this is a radical suggestion, but have they considered hiring journalists and filling the spaces between the advertisements with facts rather than opinions, of which I have several already, one for each personality?

The journalists are busy drinking Mad Bitch Ale.

"Opinionator" would be a Doppelbock, not an ale.
