New media measures take effect in Honduras

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — Honduras' interim leaders put in place new rules Saturday that threaten broadasters with closure for airing reports that "attack national security," further restricting media freedom following the closure of two opposition stations.

On a more informal but also troubling front, there's word Micheletti's de facto government has brought in Colombian paramilitaries to help with security. The United States lists the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), the Colombian paramilitary umbrella organization, as a terrorist organization.
