Rebel Without Drawers

Scooter Schaefer on his ability to relate, dude:
It is easy for me, now 25, to imagine what a twenty-something forty years ago must have been feeling. Concern over a war raging abroad, dire economic conditions at home, and the role of government in a young person’s life always lingering.

The U.S. was undergoing a societal, political, and cultural transformation during which the baby boomers, the young generation of the day, were at ground zero. Unhappy with the "establishment" and "the man" to whom they held responsible for their woes, they started a movement.

With so many parallels to choose from in the problems facing our generation, we too should hold to account the powers that be. The disaffected youth of today need to open their eyes to see the "establishment" and "the man" that looms over them.

An immense government and vast bureaucracy with unprecedented power, the likes of which this country has never seen. A powerful elite in a distant capital making decisions that infringe on our liberties and freedoms with a "we know best" attitude.
From his bio at the Patrick Henry Institute:
Gabriel “Scooter” Schaefer is the most recent addition to the staff at the Patrick Henry Center. As a recent graduate of George Mason University, Scooter was an outspoken advocate of conservative principles and issues affecting his campus. After a post-graduate back-packing trip around Europe, Scooter returned to the United States with a profound respect and admiration for his country, coupled with a determination to pursue conservative advocacy and liberty. Shortly thereafter Scooter found an internship position with an outspoken conservative member of Congress, Representative Tom McClintock of California. (CA-O4) With Capitol Hill experience under his belt Scooter returned to his passion of campus outreach and advocacy as the Assistant Director of the Caucus for Campus Freedom at the Patrick Henry Center.
Bless you, TownHall, for your mad web skillz:

Shaefer is the director of the Patrick Henry Center's Student Liberty Alliance. You want mad web skills, check out their page. Strikethrough right there with no apparent ironic intent, under construction sign, and something from November 2007 as the latest edition of their newsletter.

Also, picture time.

Apart from that one intro pic there just may be one of him hugging a Pennsylvania Avenue sign.

He's a bit obsessed by "the Man" and I don't think that's altogether healthy. Cats or Apes I could live with.

Pennsylvania Avenue

That's in the Heartland, right?

The massive blast of radiation must be how they attained their super-powers.

Q: In what manner and what relative position does The Man come into view?

A: He looms over them.

I am sure that when the need arises Scooter Schaefer will be there on the front lines ready to write about how to properly fight a space ape, and then fight the space ape again, and then surge towards the space ape, and so forth.

Once you get a space ape infestation you might as well abandon your moon.

Never in the history of the Universe has there been a sapient being (or space ape) named Scooter who was not the lowest of scum.

It warms my aging pumper that the long-standing tradition of the "backpacking" (Eurailpass, beet-shazz!) trip from which the young idler returns w/ a new appreciation of America & several colorful stories about Euro-odors & top-optional beaches is still maintained by our Scooters.

Unaccountably, his list of parallels that contribute to his sense of empathy do not include "prospect of being drafted and sent to the other side of the world to kill strangers and die in the cause of someone else's foreign-policy legacy".

Being a graphic artist back in those days, I was good at retouching the latest "Day of valid use" stamp in my Eurailpass so that it appeared to legitimise my travel on a second day. One day it even fooled a Dutch train ticket-inspector.

Via Google cache: Our youth, however, have the ability to be loud, unhinged, and ardent in their beliefs without being easily discredited, slandered, or profiled. The relative "innocence" of youth lends a movement credibility against its critics. Consider that it would be hard for even the mainstream media to challenge a modern youth movement opposing the "establishment" that we have defined, as they might be reverberating the same slogans and concepts accepted by the media of their parents' generation.

Substance McGravitas said...

Oh. Just the Townhall website being persnickety.

mikey said...

Excuse me.

I have to go reverberate some slogans.

I'll be back presently.

Substance McGravitas said...

The media of the hippie generation LOVED HIPPIES.

Consider that today's peanut butter may reverberate peanuts in the same way as the peanut butter of or parents. Or somethin'

These two sentences have been deverberated.
