Comprehension

AWR Hawkins:
And while I’m embarrassed for [Bruce] Springsteen, I’m also appalled by his hypocrisy. I mean, here is a man who takes advantage of the system in order to keep from paying all the taxes he’s supposed to pay in his home state of New Jersey: which means he’s making sure his money isn’t in the system to be distributed to those less fortunate ones whom he’s accusing [stupid bastard Governor Chris] Christie of overlooking.
Hmm, according to the link, the property is apparently indeed organically farmed, which is exactly what that tax break is for. So, uh, GO GET BRUCE!* That's right, RAISE HIS TAXES.

At least this part is funny:
When I was an impressionable youth with no direction in life, I went to a couple of Springsteen concerts during the mid-1980s. Like many at that time, I hadn’t grasped the fact that Springsteen’s thematic “Born in the U.S.A.” wasn’t praising this great country but condemning it. Yet I’ve long since figured it out [...]
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice - HEY HE FOOLED ME TWICE.

*Note: shit not given about Bruce Springsteen, who as a successful multi-millionaire is obviously not doing his own taxes for fuck's sake.

I suppose it's worth mentioning that the tax break seems kind of kooky...but also that every time I've heard of Springsteen playing one of the various places I've lived he's dropped a pretty serious chunk of change on local charities. So yeah, he distributes to the less fortunate pretty regularly I think.

As opposed to a contemptible middle-aged man who wants to take the whole country backwards...

It occurs to me that the lady who rarely pays attention to lyrics...or only does after the first 50,000 listens...might not have the right to snark on this asshole.

I just wonder if these people ever stop and ask themselves why so many creative types seem to rarely have the same political views as them. I mean, I'm sure it gets frustrating. Apparently, even wingnuts like to enjoy music and movies. But it seems to really chap their hides that the people who provide this sort of entertainment usually aren't wingnuts themselves. Unless you think Victoria Jackson, Chuck Norris and The Nuge are great entertainers.

I was thinking about doing a "Full disclosure" joke. But I think I find them too repulsive even joke like that.

Mild readjustment of "fooling me twice" gag.

9. “Don’t Tread on Me,” by Metallica. buy CD on Amazon.com
A head-banging tribute to the doctrine of peace through strength, written in response to the first Gulf War: “So be it / Threaten no more / To secure peace is to prepare for war.”

I always thought those lyrics were meant sarcastically. I could certainly be wrong...but I always took them that way.

Nah, they were anti-Napster.

I must say, though, that the wingnut predilection for misunderstanding lyrics (not to mention their obsessive need to cast EVERYTHING through an ideological lens) is always amusing.
