Mark Steyn: Crazy or Stupid?

Why split the crazy stupid baby?
And, if you mandate small cars and child-seat regulations, don't be surprised if the size of the American family starts heading south, too.
I'm miming a box! The box is getting smaller - and I am getting even shorter! Look at me mime!

Okay, so by logical extension, in order to save Europe from Muslim demographic conquest, all the good, upstanding Christian Europeans need to do is buy minivans.

Steyn:

But now you can't stick kids in the front and you need baby seats for the youngest and booster seats for the oldest and soon nanny-state regulation will require every American under 37 to be in a rear-facing child seat, which is a pretty good metaphor for where the country's going.

Latch systems and five-point belts are the death of rugged individualism.

Special laws need to be enacted whereby Steyn has to produce 1 child a year until he is 60 and those children must be unrestrained in the Winnebago that he will need to drive around in.
See, I said children not kids, so the goat thing has to stop.

Importing them from Muslim countries'd be pretty cheap and - oh, right.

When I was little, my family used to go south every summer to Jekyll Island, Ga.

And we liked it!

P.S. Captcha: "prega". Now that could be the name of a car...

Stain is a surfer on the tidal wave of urine expressed by the bed wetting he inspires. I wish he would find another avenue of employment but since there will always be rubes that suck up his drivel, I guess he will be around for a while. I think he has transcended Canada and I now consider him a native Bizzaroan.

No logical connection. (Are you doing this on purpose ?)

The argument is that the US have larger cars because they have larger families than Europeans.

Steyn is a bit lazy here: France has about the same birth rate as the USA (but many are immigrants), but still smaller cars. He is thinking too much about Germany, really going down quickly the demographic drain.

Perfectly logical connection. Steyn says mandated car size would dictate family size. That's because he's a nitwit and always has been.

Well, as I said, Steyn is lazy here. He should have said that it is *a* factor.

It is obvious that when cars are expensive (up to 33 % VAT in some European countries), when you need a seatbelt for each child, when gas is expensive, it is very expensive to drive with a large family in Europe and it can be a factor to limit your family size. Remember that people on the average would like to have one more child, but find it too expensive.

But car size is certainly not the only reason: housing is also very expensive for large families (unless you are very poor, and often a migrant from Africa, then the State kicks in).

As I said, Steyn has a point, but is too lazy in that article. (He writes, travels a lot though...)

Steyn is ridiculous here, as he often is. His demography is bullshit, he's an expert on nothing, he has no point except the one on his head.

I refer you to his writings - particularly the one linked above - as evidence.

Important distinction here, not lazy, crazy.
I am lazy because I don't mow the lawn enough, Steyn is crazy because he sees things that aren't there.

Do they have those things in Europe? You know, cheap, high mileage funny-looking boxes that putt along on next to no gas and let you carry a bunch of stuff or people?

Volkswagen vans, that's what I'm thinking of. Do they have those in Europe?
