Who but the worst kind of ideological bigot wouldn’t want to work with Patricia Heaton, one of the most talented actresses to ever star in a sitcom? If an iconic Emmy winner is losing work over her perfectly reasonable right-of-center political positions, what’s life like for those just trying to break in or the 99.7% who live hand-to-mouth in this business of show.Well yes, it is utterly terrible that Ms. Set-For-Life-On-Residuals is not getting the all the work she wants. In the item Nolte doesn't quite link to but has the gall to quote at Big Hollywood, here is how Heaton and her husband put it:
Telling me that she has many gay friends and doesn't oppose gay marriage, Patricia gets frustrated being automatically lumped together with other conservatives, a characterization she says has cost her possible work. What on earth could David Hunt mean by lunatics?
"We know for a fact there are some people who have said they wouldn't want to work with us because of our politics," she said, with her husband David Hunt adding,
Nolte finishes the job:
Our friends at NewsBusters have more.I'll bet they do.

Oh right, it's never their fault and everyone picks on them.
I weeps for them, people, weeps!!
It is worse than the McCarthy blacklist.
Not that the McCarthy list was a bad thing, of course.
And that's how you play both the offensive and victim cards simultaneously.

Global warming is fake but awesome.
I don't suppose being a 53-year-old actress has anything to do with her lack of roles?
She may not understand what she's being offered.
maybe she's not a good actress.
Are you kidding me? SHE WAS ON A POPULAR SITCOM. Also she is conservative!
Actually, she is pretty funny and talented. Which is why her politics bum me out.
Often sitcoms don't hire people who are very good actors, they just hire actors who are like the roles they will play. The producer of Dobie Gillis said that that is what he did, and you can see it in other shows as well.
You youngsters may not realize it, but there was a time when it was possible to be an American Conservative, or at least Republican, without being insane OR delusional.
Of course, in those cases you had to be a crook, but that seldom had a profound effect on your overall political contribution...
The thing about Heaton, she also used to come off as smug and unpleasant in interviews and those Acme commercials. Remember the time she blithely asserted on Letterman that Michelle Pfieffer had had a boob job like her and it backfired so badly she had a make an official retraction and apology?
I think she's great on The Middle, but there's a certain Reba style nailed-to-the-cross-ness I can find off-putting on occasion.
I'm always dubious of "I totally would have gotten that job except for those meddling [insert group]" tales, but even so people at the top of the food chain have every right to choose whomever they'd like, and the ability to work together harmoniously is not some off the wall requirement. Plus tell me "An American Carol" wasn't a make-work project for a bunch of shitty actors just because they were conservative.
I don't really know what her politics are, apart from being a Christian and abortion and stem cell stuff, which seems to me to be dumb but not lunatic-for-America. What Nolte is not getting is that people like Heaton are tarred as lunatics because sites like Big Hollywood are raising the lunacy stakes.
OIC. No, I agree having those folks in your corner probably isn't doing her any favors.
but even so people at the top of the food chain have every right to choose whomever they'd like, and the ability to work together harmoniously is not some off the wall requirement.
Totally agree. Plus, isn't that totally a free market thing?
Global warming is fake but awesome.
Sacrificing the agricultural capacity of Africa and Asia so that 60,000 Greenlanders can grow vegetables seems a reasonable trade-off.
From a 2007 story (the last iteration of the "Global Warming will benefit Greenland" story, back when AGW still officially existed):
Except for potatoes, the only vegetables most Greenlanders ever eat — to the extent that they eat vegetables at all — are imported, mostly from Denmark.
Perhaps Jonah Goldberg can be persuaded to move there.
"My feeling is all these things come from God and as long as I know I'm staying in line with Him, I don't have to worry if there is backlash," she told me during a visit to AOL's New York offices. "God will open any doors he wants to open and if he closes doors that's fine to."
So either gawd has a plan for you or he doesn't give a flying fuck, in which case it's your fault you're a loser, so shut up either way.
Also: The conservative comedy powerhouse w/ her & fellow drooler Grammer that Fox cancelled. Where was the tea party then?
she's low on the list of people I'll feel outraged for.
She was the one that went on any talk show that would have her on back during the whole Terry Schiavo clusterfuck. Cried her head off about how it was obvious Schiavo could still think/feel/etc. Why she thought she had any reason to weigh in on that, who knows. Maybe she'll think about that kind of thing and the market forces it might unleash before she does it again.
