Punk in Indonesia

This podcast's first story - in addition to having a bunch of other good and enlightening stuff - is about Marjinal, Indonesia's top punk band. They speak to and for a lot of poor people there, and one of their projects is to distribute ukeleles so street kids can busk, which is awfully awfully punk, inspiringly so.

Here the crowd is louder than the band.

There's a Marjinal documentary on YouTube but the subtitles are pretty hard to read.

In all honesty, a great deal of the available content on YouTube is marginal.

Sorry. Fruit hanging so low I had to genuflect...

Without low hanging fruit, some of us would get scurvy.

Four strings, three chords, two big brass balls- that is punk!

You know, it kind of seems to me that a post titled "Punk in Indonesia" is only as valuable as it can lead to a follow-on post titled "Youth in Asia"...

Searching for "ukulele Clash" at YouTube produces some entertaining results. I also also enjoyed a ukulele version of "Call Me."

Happy New Year, everyone.
