Things That Follow

The usual:
Vic Toews, Canada's public safety minister, recently issued a blunt declaration about his new Internet spying bill.

Anyone who opposes Bill C-30 "can either stand with us or with the child pornographers," Toews declared.
And a predictable HA HA follows:
OTTAWA—Public Safety Minister Vic Toews is calling for an investigation into how his divorce records ended up on Twitter.

Toews has been targeted in an online campaign related to the introduction of a surveillance bill which gives authorities easier access to people’s Internet lives.
Meanwhile:
Two NDP MPs broke party ranks to vote with the government Wednesday night in the final House of Commons vote in favour of scrapping the long-gun registry.
So I suppose what's needed is proof that child pornographers own guns.

Thank you Latvian Google.*

I'm sure Vic Toews can get a job in Virginia if they ever throw him out of Canuckistan.

Just the other day, I was standing with the child pornographers. We all stood there, with us, standing. There was no sitting, and no significant drifting apart. We just stood with, well, US, me and the child pornographers.

So this dood comes up and he says "mikey, what's the deal, you're standing with the child pornographers" and I says "yeah, funny thing, that, but yer damn right".

So the dood asks me "why would you stand with the child pornographers (by the way, if I might break the sixty third wall for a second, "pornographers" is a wicked hard word to type. If you can type "pornographers" by touch you officially don't need light bulbs in your house. Just sayin'.)mikey, and I told'm "dood - every body else in the yard was a Republican, and I sure ain't gonna stand with those cocksuckers, gnome sane".

And the dood nodded somberly, considered carefully for a moment, and then he walked over and stood with the child pornographers.

Yep.

That's JUST the way it happened...

O.K. What about sitting down? Don't mean to be lazy, but am feeling a bit fatigued, and now I'm confused. Who, exactly, am I sitting down with right now? Am I sitting down with people who are standing with child pornographers? Don't mind hangin' with Mikey at all, but how does Mikey and the child pornographers feel about people sitting around while they're doing the hard work of standing?

It's getting harder and harder to have an opinion, these days. It seems to require more action than it used to. It's starting to involve crowds and posture and such and what appears, quite frankly, to be adopting some pretty arbitrary, if not monstrous, group identity.

It's easy! You do what they say or you're with the child pornographers, sitting, standing or prone.

Being disobedient is getting rather complicated now, isn't it? This makes me want to stand with the my-way-or-stand-with-the-child-pornographers-way and make him completely sorry to have ME on his side.

Child pornographers aren't so bad. It's not realistic to expect everyone under 18 to have a prestigious vocation like child engineer or child veterinarian.

I am just now understanding the lure of the XBox.
