Time to Panic!

Kimberly Cox:
All right! We blew it! My Generation, The Millennial Generation, totally fell for the oldest trick in the book and now we look like hopeless idiots in front of the whole world. What was our mistake? Youth. The veracity of naivete that only comes with inexperience, adolescence and a total lack of responsibility.

Characterized by our Pop Culture and Mass Media, we may participate in an election, try to be advocates for hope and change, but as long as “The Bachelor” and “Jersey Shore” succeed in the ratings, The Millennial Generation will be seen as having the same morals, values and ethics as the people who are on these reality shows.
Hmm, The Bachelor seems to draw about 15,000,000 eyes - possibly 30,000,000 if you don't believe in the curse that is the BB gun. Half of those are in the 18-49 group. Jersey Shore draws fewer watchers.

As proof of how silly this is as a measure of anything I added the viewership of the top 25 network shows to the viewership of the top 25 cable shows and the result OMG IT ADDS UP TO 505 MILLION PEOPLE AND THE ONLY EXPLANATION IS 200 MILLION ILLEGAL ALIENS!

I see ACORN has expanded its operations beyond the voting booth.

I will not go gently into that good night. I will no longer be silent in the face of the criticism intended to dis-empower or negate the promise of my generation. Demanding better content, higher standards and moral boundaries is our responsibility.

Tits or GTFO!

We should know better. At least, with all the education we have had, you would think we might have picked up a thing or two in history class.

I was smart enough to take some history and I well remember the tragic fate of the Flipper generation.

Realize Ancient Rome is where the origins of Pop Culture began.

Oh gee. Maybe she DID take some history.

Funny, I've never seen teh Bachelor. Or Jersey Shore.

Just wait until I tell Bob Somerby that I don't watch Keith and/or Rachel, either.

(And not just because I don't turn the TV on very often...I don't get MSNBC.)

P.S. Get the hell offa my lawn!

"the veracity of naivete" WTF? This person values vocabulary a bit more than coherence. I can't read on.

Flipper? They were a GREAT band.

I am, however, VERY worried about the MST3K generation. Preoccupation with puppets is the only explanation I can see for the popularity of Jeff Dunham.

I've also never seen the shows in question. But I'm gonna take the position that much of the studio management responsible for greenlighting and funding their production and getting them a broadcast time slot were boomers just like me.

Those kids may be doing all the digging in all the trenches at this point, but you don't honestly believe we've let them make any decisions more critical than where to eat lunch, do you?

They also went on to form the core of Polkacide. Their version of Who Stole the Kishka was KICKASS!

did not know that, B/4.

saw them in a dive here in Milwaukee once. They did, indeed, kick ass and come to polka.

I saw Flipper on a bad night with a bad line-up. Barely remember anything.
