I am disappointed by the lack of craziness and stupidity in that comment thread, with only one contributor claiming that "Studies like this only serve to give excuses to women who have problems with alcohol". And even she doesn't go as far as claiming that the study was funded by the alcohol industry. MUST TRY HARDER.

Reassuringly, commenter #2 comes up with a classic puritan argument, that "Giving up two signs of adulthood during pregnancy is training for giving up your adult life when you have kids, to get you used to not doing what you want."

ERV picked up on that Guardian story so I totally read it last week HA HA.

Kathleen should get started on alcohol / pregnancy stories.

Fortunately, no-one has suggested that pregnant women should abstain from methamphetamines.

Thinking of Drinking during pregnancy? Talk to a health professional at a Liquor Store. they are trained to advise you as to what is best for you and the new consumer.

Hey, my mom drank and smoked all through her pregnancy with me, and hardly anything at all went wrong.

Right?

Cause-and-effect difficulties are a problem, yes.

What mikey said. My parents eventually did give up smoking, I believe in the 70s.

Interesting how it seems only the woman will need to give these things up.

My mom was also a smoke-and-booze-fueled human incubator with me. Everything was fine, although when I came out, I was itching for a fight and tried to strangle the doctor with the umbilical chord until I broke down sobbing about the loneliness of the womb. True story.
