The Seal of Quallity

Christian Toto doesn't get it:
Here’s the scene: Bullock’s character is waiting in line to speak to someone about her new son Michael’s legal status.

Fed up, she cuts to the front of the line to ask a question:

“We have been sitting around here for over an hour and when I look around all I see are people shooting the bull and drinking coffee … who’s in charge here?”

The bemused woman behind the desk points to the wall, where a picture of Bush is hanging.

We’ve all been in long lines before, be it at the DMV or other governmental offices. And it doesn’t matter which party - or person - is occupying the White House at the moment.

So the joke makes no sense.
There used to be a regular joke-dissecting column like this in the National Lampoon. It was funny.

well, toto is right. During the 8 years that Pretzeldent Drinky McFightsuit's picture hung all over this Greatest Country IN The Universe, he was certainly not the one in charge.

We could have a useful debate as to whether it was Cheney, or Halliburton, or Wall Street, but GWB does not seem to be the answer.

Analysing humour is like dissecting a live frog, but even more fun.

I dunno. I clicked on the greatest forty seconds and it was removed.

This? Think I'll stand by.

Not enough angst, not enough cowbell, not enough gender ambiguity.

I'm thinking the whole nineties thing didn't sink in.....

Toto is one of the funniest kooks at Big Hollywood. There's just no telling what direction he'll go.

Send his sorry ass back to Kansas and forget 'em, says I.

Better yet, drop a house on 'em.

Come to think of it, this "whose picture on the wall" routine is a staple of Czech humour. I'm thinking of one of the scenes in The Good Soldier Svejk, so it's not just a communist-era thing. Does this mean that the Czechs don't understand sophisticated comedy? Perhaps not, but their beer is more than compensation.

It's Michael Oher's fault for being born in 1986. You know how those people are. How's that hope and change working out for you, and c.

What Rusty says; the film being based on a true story et cetera, it might not have been a joke.

what film are they talking about?

Cuz I am STAYING IN THE DAMN BOAT.

ZRM, it's The Blind Side, a story about how some rich white people (Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw) made a football star out of some black dude (some black dude). A triumph of the human spirit and such.

Nolte's still on the case. A nutpick:

Excuse me for pointing out the obvious, but aren't DMVs run by state agencies rather than the Federal government? Not only are the filmmakers furthering an agenda, but they can't get their facts straight.

Yeah, but, see, that simply wouldn't have worked. Phil Bredesen is a DEMOCRAT!!

In Freudianterms, the woman was pointing to the father figure of the then President. This underlines the socio-political nature of the father-daughter relationship or as it is known in psychoanalytical circles unetrgravenzweibachzwitterionism. Understanding this can help in our appreciation of this joke. Now in the next scene there is a blue horse...
