Nerd Alert

The first comic book tribute to John Barth ever? The only? The most reprehensible? November 1970.

I'd have a better idea of the reprehensibility factor if I knew whether that old pirate Stan Lee (who wasn't that old 39 yrs. ago) got the writing/dialogue credit for this one.

Does Mickey Kaus appear in this episode?

I wonder if Mickey Kaus' kids ever google his name?

Roy Thomas, a former schoolteacher, so you know he, like, read books and stuff.

It's tough mashing the keyboard with those little hooves.

That makes no sense at all and I did it anyway. Your seal of quality, my friends.

zombie rotten mcdonald said...

Maybe it was a goat of quality.

Substance McGravitas said...

I don't think the goats honk the little horns in that cute seal way though.

Yeah, perhaps so, but it certainly seems as if "Seal Fucker" is an underused epithet...

coodup?

Sounds like one o'them hippety hop words

I would like to know more about the Forces of Zodiac. What superpowers does Virgo possess?

zombie rotten mcdonald said...

But wouldn't a blown seal have all kinds of great implications?

None. Back in those days more heroes and villains just had gadgets. Someone's gonna write a thesis about the transition of Marvel from technology to mutation in explanation of its characters I'm sure.

I blew a seal once.

Also should Daredevil, if,indeed it is he, say 'Black Panther and me'? should it not be 'Black Panther and I'?
There is no point in destroying the plans of giant super rams if one does it sloppily.

That's okay, really. The question of whether to refer to The Panther as a Black one was still fairly unsettled at that point, so well-meaning creepiness is more jarring than the grammar of guys who prefer "thru" to "through".

Although the off-putting feminist issue came soon after...

Maybe Aries really hate incorrect grammar? Captcha suggests it haps their chides.

Crikey Whilst researching the backstory I found this picture of the Zodiac team. That must have been a smelly clubhouse.

Also Cancer is pretty hilarious in battle, and I assume when unzipping at the urinal.

Another Kiwi said...

Also note Mr Aries peachy little MALE sign on his overalls. Just to clear it up for anyone who was confused

tigris said...

Yeah, that's not the symbol for Aries, which looks like fallopian tubes.
