The BBC article mentions the Moynalty Virgins club which attracted my interest. Sadly they have no web presence but I did find out that "Moynalty is the home of the famous Steam Threshing Festival held every year and features displays of vintage machinery, demonstrations of steam threshing and other old time skills>"
I believe that's what the kids call it these days
So Leftous Bubba is on the dustheap of history?
Hmmmm.
Very concerning.

It looks like John T. Simpson knocked him down for the count.
It's better this way. The air here is heavy with gravitas, and the comments date stamp is Schlussel style: loud.
And my pretty picture shows! Twice!
But why am I feeling so insecure?

mikey
That's pretty odd. Can't think what the problem would be except maybe for the avatars.
Well, Chrome is kind of weird. It whines about stuff, but then it carries right on...
Chrome blows--sort of like Google does . Soi-disant leftists everywhere should not forget Google's a high-powered Steinford Inc product either. As Zappa might say, Strictlee Commercial. Speakin' of Zappa, and the Borat schmendrick--a garlic aroma that could level Tacoma. . Sasha's not phunny either.

It seems I've got a lot in common with a piece of Freeware....
which is very disheartening. Never thought I'd be replaced by a piece of software in such a demeaning way.
Maybe Chrome has noticed that in the move The House of Substance somehow ended up with about 20 more posts than Righteous Bubba. These secret posts are Chrome's doom.
These secret posts are Chrome's doom.
McGravitas's Rainbow?

It must be said that fundamentalist software partisans always crack me up. One browser "blows", another doesn't.
Take a deep breath, dood. They're all just browsers. You know, they render HTML pages. If one or another rises to the level of "blowing", you're doing it worng...
Probably a typo -- they meant to say that the film is 'veil' (i.e. PENIS reference).
If you haven't listened, the phone message at the BBC site is worth hearing. The guy sounds somewhat weary.
Nyet. Google touted Chrome as this wild, hyper-fast new thing--vastly superior to firefox and IE-- and it's not. Slow, cluttered, inefficient, and the bookmarking a hassle. What's more, Google execs--courtesy of Steinford Inc.-- blow as well (billionaires for hiring some engineers to design a slightly fast search engine. Wow. Google rips people off on youtube as well--and pretty much gutted blogspot (try to contact them). They should have been subject to anti-trust years ago (actually they are now under investigation from DoJ. That POS Schmidt sits on Apple BoD too).
If the point of contrarian misunderstandings of Google's operations is to justify the superiority of Microsoft and IE your efforts might be equally well spent in a discussion of Coke vs. Pepsi.
What is the equivalent of Jolt Cola in this argument?
Heh. GOP frat boys said about the same say in 20s when the Feds started to look into JP Morgan, Standard Oil, Chase, etc.
Google Inc.'s just another oligarchy--JP Morgan, with sooped-up adding machines (arguably not even that: more like ad men, with lots of gear). And quite a few old silicon wally programmers and networking people agree.
What is the equivalent of Jolt Cola in this argument?
Echelon.
Heh. GOP frat boys said about the same say in 20s when the Feds started to look into JP Morgan, Standard Oil, Chase, etc.
That's just a poor analogy.
No--I don't think you quite understand the point. An Oligarchy is an oligarchy, regardless of product and Google specializes in marketing (or e-marketing), just like the big madison ave people did.
It's really quite unfathomable (to revert to anglo-speak for a few nano-seconds) that putative liberals defend bloated corporate giants such as Google, or Yahoo, MSN, Apple, when they are every bit the conglomerates that JP Morgan, Goldman sachs, AIG, Ford-chevy are--I don't lose sleep over it, and still use the products, but that doesn't mean I approve of billionaire ad men.
I suspect the new gal (from Clinton Admin) working for DoJ will bring Google and other silicon giants to court (as MS was under Clinton) in next few months, if another war doesn't kick off.
Nobody defended Google.
I need to google like 5 different things to understand this debate.
You don't need to remind me of what X did or didn't do. I merely made a point about Chrome (consumerism, like, d00d), and that seemed to irk someone. As I said, I don't lose sleep over corporate excesses.
Regardless, the Google execs are now counted among the wealthiest, most powerful bozos in the world, and most of their success resulted from fairly shady, e-commerce like hustles (including youtube).
The entire SEO model itself rather bizarre--companies making millions just from ad revenue, with really no product or work involved. Were you to take a jaunt in the hills above palo alto and mt view--with the mondo chateaus of the few It Wunderkinds like Brin, Page, Schmidt, Jobs Ellison etc, and garages full of ferraris, hummers, porsches, etc--you might get a better picture. Maybe not.
You don't need to remind me of what X did or didn't do.
Yeah I do. Keeps you on track.
Testing. Testing. To see if this modification will make me a more funny, likeable and coherent commenter. Capcha suggests it won't make any difference and I'll remain the same old kinkarat I've always been.
Verging into Non-Sequitur land, RB, uh McG.
Either way, you seem to suggest monopolies and corporate oligarchies are acceptable. I doubt you are that less qualified a technician, or manager or whatever than Eric Schmidt is. Gates finished what a year or two of college. Steve Jobs dropped out of community college his first year, like after completing a BASIC class, and calligraphy.
You shoulda been a ........Calligrapher, McG.
Either way, you seem to suggest monopolies and corporate oligarchies are acceptable.
Nobody said this either.
You're on a roll.
You said the analogy between corporate giants of 20s to corporate giants of 2000s was not relevant, and said I was a contrarian for suggesting as much, or for bringing up anti-trust. Ergo, you imply that corporate giants are acceptable.
You said the analogy between corporate giants of 20s to corporate giants of 2000s was not relevant
Your analogy compared me to 1920s Republicans.
If you're a little less florid in your writing there'll be less to pick at.
it also directly follows that S mcG kicks puppies.
With ecstasy.
Your inference--not mine McZ.
You're not exactly GOPer,McG: mo' like an ordinary corporate liberal-lackey. Or Booj-wah running dog as the comrades say--that's the MO of the CT reg,of course.
Y'all just need some NASDAQ posts to bring it all togetha.
Google's evil.
Alberson's is evil.
Kelly-Moore is evil.
I still need a browser, some pita bread and a gallon of eggshell interior latex.
At some point all the frothing at the mouth just becomes a health problem...
Your inference--not mine McZ.
Then why write it? Really it's just sloppy. Your reading of what and who I am seems to be pulled from misreads of responses to your assumptions and conspiracy theories. Unsurprising thus far, but I'm sure you've got more.
Your inference--not mine McZ.
I think J was referring to me.
Of course, I tried like hellto make it obviously satirical, sarcastic and obnoxious, and obviously failed on at least two of those counts.
All those brains I eat, and still only manage middling moderate stupidity.
I think J was referring to me.
Hmm, could be. Hard to tell.
In other words, Google's cool by Mikey, regardless of the countless lawsuits, anti-Google blogs, pending anti-trust, execs sitting on multiple BoDs, ripped off writers and musicians, not to say disgruntled chrome users.
Company guy.
Hey, J.
In my youth I KILLED people for the US of A.
I've been in prison for violent crimes.
If you want to portray me as evil, you can do WAY better than the fact that I use Google's software products.
That's just weak...
Albertson's is evil…
but the meat department is MINE.
Ok, yeah.
THAT was arguing.
I'll go do something else now...
Sorry...
Heh.
In other words, Google's cool by Mikey
It could possibly be - making no assumptions here - that Google is cool by mikey in this way:
I don't lose sleep over it, and still use the products, but that doesn't mean I approve of billionaire ad men.
The incoherence of the accusations is fairly striking.
I'm gonna leave that one up as it's very very odd.
Perhaps it is time for some medication.
I mean for me.
Cuz I am a premixop.
Can't but encourage medication where required.
What is the fixation with Connecticut?
Seems like there's always this accusatory sense that you are from a small, northeastern state.
One time he accused me of being a neocon from Connecticut. And I'm a west coast kind of fellah!
I'm missing something here...
CT is Crooked Timber, no?
The Connecticut connection,
is all to do with his direction.
It's not to do with education,
it's to do with masturbation.
Not enough will clog the brain,
send your posting down the drain.
So pull that wire, choke the chicken
With teh funnies you'll be smitten.
Sadly I am here all week.
Yeah. I think he thinks I'm someone of note that Johns Holbo and Emerson give a shit about.
A unique individual untethered to our mundane notions of reality.
Nada mas que chandala
tiempo para la kiwi-fiesta!
ay ay
No tengo chándal pero debo fiesta
I still need a browser, some pita bread and a gallon of eggshell interior latex.
This is leading up to another JanusNode recipe, no?
'Echelon'is one of my tiggers.
I thought this was a safe encironment.
'Tiggers' means 'triggers', of course.
Also I blame Chrome for turning me anonymous.
Took me a while at the Prado yesterday to realise that "Anónimo Flamenco" was not the name of a particularly prolific painter.
Also I blame Chrome for turning me anonymous.
Monsters!
at the Prado
Did you see The Google?
Have you been to the Thyssen and the Reina Sofia?
I am assuming that to be a rhetorical question.
