Except for the 60s

Victoria Jackson, loon:
I only want the best for everyone. My beliefs in the Bible, and freedom and capitalism are only ideals that bless people. And, they worked real good from 1776 to 2008…with a hitch in the 60s where immorality, free love, the pill, drugs, divorce, and the breakup of the family started the thread of morality unraveling.
Attention historians: the civil war was nicer than you think.

Can one of you intrepid souls who like to go to dingy scary places on the intert00bz to interview the locals please do me a favor and ask them for their working definition of the word "freedom".

'Cause they sure throw it around in a whole lot of different contexts, and when somebody actually demonstrably reduces the amount of freedom they have (habeas corpus, "protest zones", warrantless wiretaps etc) they seem to think that's real fine.

Clearly they think that health insurance is the opposite of freedom, but I can't get a handle on what they seem to be saying...

Thanks...

Watching "Wisconsin Death Trip" certainly left me feeling nostalgic for the good old days of the Long Depression.

Freedom™ = Anything "Liberals" don't like, mikey.

Killing a hundred thousand Iraqis, liberating many more from their limbs and livelihood, making millions homeless?

FREEDOM™!

Spying on Americans without a warrant (at least when done by rethuglican administration)?

FREEDOM™!

Ignoring our treaty obligations and national honor (such as it is) by torturing people?

FREEDOM™!

Sending gooper operatives to town halls to shout down anyone who supports the kind of health care most other nations approaching our wealth have come to expect?

FREEDOM™!

P.S. Another kiwi, my next set of pics from Red Rock State Park will feature two (2) insects.

well, sure, Thunder. I get that. Those are the operative anecdotal examples I'm familiar with.

I'd just like to know what the functional definition that leads to that kind of cognitive dissonance actually is.

It doesn't seem like it should be such a hard question. It's a word they use ALL the time. What does it MEAN?

Jesus was all about the silver coins, as we all know now.

That effing Judas sold out for only 30 pieces, thus setting back Capitalism™ for like a thousand years , at least.

Well, the capitalism brought us bomb-throwing anarchists, and everyone knows those are cool...

Ms. Jackson should be forced to return every penny she made in her acting career, because none of it was acting; she really is stump-dumb.

"Freedom" is the part of capitalism that's against regulation.

"Freedom" is how any man who's a man can take off into the woods w/a load of seeds & a hoe, find himself a homestead, & plant the seeds that will grow into Microsoft, & profit.

"Freedom" is their absolute right to do anything in their economic interest that does not result in the immediate death, dismemberment or permanent (important distinction) disfigurement of human beings. If whatever they're doing may result in physical harm in 30 yrs., well, "That's bullshit science, you just want to interfere w/ my freedom!!"

And that's no sersurta!

What the hell, it's certainly the basis for a lot of this crap.

The "Freedoms" they think are disappearing are:

1) Religion, because gay marriage & abortion, something something. It may be hard for rootless cosmos to get that, but it's a sadly serious part of the Freedomers' lives, & when they're told by money-lusting mega-preachers that the very rock of whatnot is threatened by the gov't. allowing sin, they think their First Amendment freedoms are being eroded. (And fear of not being able to call for the deaths, shunning, beating, of, well, anyone, from the pulpit, because of "hate-speech" laws. That can really cut into the old "Freedom.")

2) Gubs [sic]. Used to have 'em, friends of mine have 'em, I think m1k3y has one or two, but none of us are quivering in fear that Obama-bots are coming to get the guns. It's like the religion, they're so intensely invested in it that the slightest rumor of a slippery slope sends them right down that slope into the Valley of Paranoia. After all, they've got to be a little nervous to begin w/ if their guns are all that stands between them & ...?

3) Property rights. Nothing in America has ever happened (And it only happened in America!) except for the greed of some clown, greed he would not have had anywhere in any other country because here in America he can haz property, keep the fruits of his labor, yada!! So any regulation, insistence on paying a minimum if not living wage, laws against dumping your garbage in the gutter, &c., are TAKING THE FREEDOM from the greed that motivates all real Americans.

Health care fears are part of the property bit. If insurers could just do what they want, greedy competition would make everything great, but the possibility that health care for everybody might drive the brave competitive insurers OUT OF BUSINESS!! & cost a few bucks more a month out of someone's take-home is stealing your freedoms.

The other thing to realize is that this is all speculative fiction, pie in the sky, by & by crap from those fucks. Overactive imaginations, to put it mildly. No rational basis to any of their fears. None of them could point to one piece of legislation, other than the $zillion transferred to corporations ( which probably kept many of them from trying out the free job market) that has even started to infringe on any of what think makes them free. And even that is only potentially reducing the Freedom to Fail (That one gets a lot of lip service, seldom honored when the shit comes down.) & be punished financially for it.

P. S.: Thanks for the set-up, mikey. I've given "Freedom" a good four mins. thought, but am just too lazy to set up & finish a whole cohesive item chez moi.
