Giving Republicans Advice

I dunno, when things are sucking you don't have to be much more than The Other Guy and try not to alienate people. A true believer like Scott Walker has a program to run against.

Americans may not like Republican policies, but it's pretty fucking easy to get them to overlook those policies.

Especially when the Democrats are delivering the same policies.

Willard knows that all his policies were implemented by the Bush Administration and people are quite reasonably less than ecstatic about that outcome. He will do everything he can to avoid ANY specifics.

And when I see a Democrat endorse the Paul Ryan budget or sign a Norquist pledge I'll agree with you, Thundra...

What ideas do Republicans have? How many ways can you say "Cut taxes for rich people?"

Well, Mitt can have "WE GOTTA BOMB IRAN!" as a policy goal. Democrats are much better on this with "WE MIGHT BOMB IRAN!"

Thank goodness we have Simpson-Bowles as the liberal alternative.

God Bless You, President "Comfortable Shoes" Obama!

And thank goodness they sent Bill "NAFTA" Clinton to Wisconsin to fight for labor.

Unless I missed the news, Simpson Bowles failed and no legislation resulted.

And dude, if you are calling Alan Simpson, Erskine Bowles, or Obama 'liberals' you might want to adjust your timing belt.

And pretty much ALL of the Republicans have endorsed the Ryan Budget "Plan". If the parties were the same, then Democrats would, at least in SOME numbers be doing the same. I'm waiting to see if this happens. This isn't a question of some OTHER budget - it's a question of whether both parties are just they same and endorsing the same policies.

For that matter, if I was a Palestinian, I'd be pretty fearful of a Romney administration. Just saying...

If you read the post-election anlayses, there wasn't a magic bullet that would have swung the recall. It was an overreach on the part of the state Dems, and their fault for not cluing into the anti-recall hysteria. But don't you WANT them to overreach, sometimes?

Unless of course, you think I am out to fucking lunch on everything I saw and read and heard here during that election. Which is an admitted possibility, but for fuck's sake, I think what I wrote was more coherent than that screed at naked capitalism.

In a perfect world I would not support an Obama reelection campaign and I would actively work to see him defeated.

Alas, it is NOT a perfect world. There are worse monsters, and worse ideas, and uglier outcomes. And I genuinely fear an America facing four years of a Romney presidency, under a Republican leadership that truly feels this is their last, best chance to shape the way we see our world, and the things we believe are important.

If there was another possible outcome, then I'd love to be part of it. But on November 7th either Barack Obama or Mitt Romney will be President. For FOUR FUCKING YEARS. If the very idea of this sociopathic, bigoted, violent, racist, authoritarian, war-loving party in an unfettered leadership role for four years with a head of state who is craven and hollow doesn't concern you, I really don't know what you believe. Do what you gotta. But no whining when you get what you want?

You roger?

Yes, you can vote Republican (Obama) party or Crazy (Romney) party.

Thanks, I'll pass.

There may be only an inch of difference between the two major parties, but there are people whose lives depend on that inch, and I'm not willing to sell them out for the sake of ideological purity. that was me paraphrasing someone who said it first. That is why I will vote democrat until we get a better left wing alternative that has a chance of winning.

I have said before that I have a lot of sympathy for the anti-Obama camp. In a just world he'd be in jail, like every other American president in the last 100 years. If I could vote, though, I'd vote Obama. It's a tool, not an expression of your soul; the political expression of your soul you can find by other means. For the friends and family I have down south, some of the things Obama's done that the crazy party would never do will mean good and important things.

On this blog, though, I think I can definitively say that there aren't enough votes available to swing anything and it literally - not a figure of speech but really and truly literally - does not matter if any of you vote in any direction or not at all. How nice you are to each other is more important to me. There's already Newt Gingrich to insist that this or that liberal is crazy or depraved.

As long as we drink with a Mekons soundtrack after the arguments, it's all good.

Well THIS liberal certainly is.

As a contradictory example to the main post, consider John Kerry in 2004.

Admittedly, how much things sucked then was a little less obvious to low-information voters.

I think that's the whole of it.
