We are at war in Afghanistan because the United States was barbarically attacked by Muslim terrorists who use Afghanistan as a base of operations with the indulgence of the Afghan people and their then-rulers, the equally barbaric Afghan Taliban.I guess we're at war to punish everybody in Afghanistan.

The Consent of the Governed
Golly that Michael Steele sure is a dope! He doesn't know what he's talking about of course, but, uh, when does the Afghanistan campaign actually become a war of choice for Obama? Just asking. Anyway, Michael Steele has pissed off Andy McCarthy:

Hey, cut Michael a bit of slack here. Setting aside for a moment his forgetting that the US invasion of Afghanistan came at the order of GW Bush (Hey, it WAS a helluva long time ago), he's pretty much right about the whole "can't win/oughta get the hell out" thing.
Personally, I prefer the "unnecessary" frame over the "unwinnable" frame, but it is fair to say that we took their capital and deposed their leaders, so if that ain't winning we're going to have to find a new working definition...
After all, you know what they say about a stopped buffoon...
he's pretty much right
Well, we agree that he said a few words which I would enjoy hearing from other people, but it's hard to say if he has a settled opinion about anything.
Oh, good heavens no. He's an empty vessel that shouts random things on a variety of topics that can be summarized as "Obama is wrong". He's like the magic 8 ball of Obama hating.
I'm quick to defend him because I'd hate to see them elevate someone of competence, plus he's so far around the bend I'd miss him if he was gone. Actually I feel the same way about Michelle Bachman - I may go actively work to help her get re-elected. That's a rare, special kind of crazy, that coupled with Michael's rare, special kind of stupid is the best reality show on the air today.
Plus, he makes people like Bill Kristol's head explode. This is an added benefit...
I'm actually getting kind of down on the bad guys being so incompetent. Sure doesn't seem to help the "good guys" do good things.
It's just like the stimulus. You can say "look where we are, it's not helping". But you can also imagine how bad things might otherwise be...
We are at war with barbarism. We have always been at war with barbarism.
Michael tells us we should never get involved in a land war with barbarism...
A land war without barbarism is appeasement!
...a sea war with barbarism might not be much of a picnic, either
I like the way that Andy has defined the Afghan population as the other side of a war -- rather than its beneficiaries as the usual occupation-to-protect-them rhetoric would have it -- so that any talk of reducing civilian casualties becomes enemy-coddling weakness.
They're Muslims: they'll blow you up and your bicycle tires too.
And so will their babies*
And they will break your shovels!**

Hee hee, that is too perfect.

It is decidedly so for now.
CraZ4txt Magic 8 Ball. Chairman "Streetz" Steele sez: "It's off the hook!"
you'd think their blinding poverty woul;d be punishement enough, but NOOOOOOOOO. They have to get greedy and demand even more.
The Afghani people, that is. They're gluttons for punishment the way that we're gluttons for.... well... everything else.
