I Trust This Guy!

What an odd press release:
What I want you to know is that Zero Dark Thirty is a dramatization, not a realistic portrayal of the facts. CIA interacted with the filmmakers through our Office of Public Affairs but, as is true with any entertainment project with which we interact, we do not control the final product.
One of the complaints:
Second, the film creates the strong impression that the enhanced interrogation techniques that were part of our former detention and interrogation program were the key to finding Bin Ladin. That impression is false. As we have said before, the truth is that multiple streams of intelligence led CIA analysts to conclude that Bin Ladin was hiding in Abbottabad. Some came from detainees subjected to enhanced techniques, but there were many other sources as well. And, importantly, whether enhanced interrogation techniques were the only timely and effective way to obtain information from those detainees, as the film suggests, is a matter of debate that cannot and never will be definitively resolved.
Torture: maybe helpful.

Why release this at all?

Even more bizarre, why complain about what is by definition a work of fiction? If in the end the SEALS had killed bin Laden with a laser pistol, or put him in some kind of cryonic suspension, or even put him on a rocket and shot him into the sun, would they complain about that too? If they raided the compound on horseback instead of from helicopters? If one of the SEALS suddenly looked across the compound, lit romantically by flares and tracer rounds, locked eyes with bin Laden and fallen deeply in love and helped him escape to a Mediteranian island where they made passionate love and ate tapenade all day, would that have been worthy of a CIA press release.

Doods. It's a fucking MOVIE.

Know what? There's no Hobbits either. I'm waiting for that pronouncement from Langley any day...

It'd only take a few months without American meddling to end the crisis in the Middle Earth.

Who can gauge desire? How can one quantify physical attraction felt by others?

There are no universal standards FORTUNATELY.

I think the complained because someone somewhere at Langley has a conscience. They don't all want to be painted with the 'torturer' brush. There have to be some CIA employees that know right from wrong. There have to be some people there who are more pragmatic than they are bloodthirsty. The CIA wants informers not terrified people who avoid them at all costs. This torture shit will hobble human intelligence gathering for a generation even if they stop using it yesterday.
