I think the point is that the Republicans want to make it about Obama because their own candidate is problematic in many ways, and Obama wants to make it about Romney because his economic record is not stellar and a sitting President whining about an obstructionist congress only goes so far.
So it's yet another "horserace" item, but it's a perfectly reasonable question for them to ask within that construct...
Oh, you're absolutely right. But when you think about it, you can only shout TAXES, MEDICARE, JOBS & DEFICIT so many times before there's just nothing left to say.
So they cover the press issues. The "horserace" horseshit. As you say, it's pointless and tangential to the actual election, but I guess it's that or don't write anything...

I still don't get it. What it's "about" is a press issue, while people who vote are gonna choose A or B, and one of those is an incumbent.

Y'all are deluding yourselves if you think actual policies, issues, yada have much to do w/ the average Yankee ninny's vote.
I do like TPM but they are policy wonks. It was all about the uppity socialist Kenyan usurper last time and it will be the same again.
You People have everything you need.
