Does anyone know why the Movement Conservatives decided to make DDT of all things into another shibboleth of group membership, another excuse for a loyalty test? It seems strange and arbitrary.
It might have something to do with the overlap between the sets of exterminators and wingnuts. (See Delay, Tom) The bug slaughtering industry tells everybody that will listen that we have bedbugs because DFH's took away our DDT. That this is untrue is central to their point.

Banning DDT is a clear example of science that determined a cause/effect relationship, and the banning of DDT was actually successful in reversing the ecological damage. This clearly needs to be undermined aggressively since science cannot be allowed to have a say in long-term environmental policies. THINK OF THE LOST PROFITS MAN!!!!
It's really an urban myth movement.
