Started a copy of The Road to Miltown that's been gathering dust for a few years. The second piece begins with a quote that is too weird to be true, yet it must be real.
Those interested in the weird can buy the book I snagged the image from or pony up the four bucks at The Times if they like.
Enjoy some similarly absurd drumming.

Perelman drily admitted to having been such a Ring Lardner thief that he should have been arrested.
Where is Sergeant Pluck when we really need him?

Mmmmm, dunno if it's my brain getting worse, but I am not seeing a weird quote anywhere.
Eck-shully, I don't follow what any of this Maugham-Morley stuff has to do w/ S.G. Prebleman.
The 1947 best of. Is the (alleged) piece one of them?
There's also a torrent of The Most of ..., but I'm not spelling "PB," let alone linking.
As a book review the Morley thing is...well, a put-on? And Perelman takes off on it writing a book review/upriver trip through Borneo.
Morley? The Haunted Bookshop? That rings a bell.

I see no mention of bicycles.

Well there is that bit about Media's poop mightily soaring and sinking, which is a pretty evocative image.
Am I literal minded. I assumed a "quote" would be two or three pithy lines.
I did figure someone was being mocked but ADHD wouldn't let me read the whole thing & discover the victim.
