Shoot First, Talk Later

Andrew Klavan in defense of terrorism:
And guess what? It doesn’t matter a damn whether you’re for abortion or against it. The Supreme Court decision arbitrarily declaring abortion a constitutional right is the worst thing that ever happened to either faction.
Er, except the faction that's for abortion...
It was rotten and dishonest at its core – read the constitution and you tell me where the right to an abortion is – and rather than conferring a right on people, it actually stripped them of their most important right: the right to elect legislators who make the laws they want.
The point of a constitution is that THAT RIGHT IS LIMITED. Jeebus, this is the very heart of conservatism, guy: it should not be easy to go nuts with kooky laws!
I blame Roe v. Wade for a lot of things: the current poison partisanship, the rise of inappropriate religious politics, the corruption of our system for appointing and approving Supreme Court justices – but most of all, I blame it for the irreconcilable virulence of the sides in the abortion debate.
Let's imagine Roe v. Wade as a legislative act. How much shorter would this list be for Klavan?
How can you discuss things in a civil manner when your right to make a final decision about them has been taken away by seven Little Caesars who think their black robes make them kings?
Clearly you cannot discuss things in a civil manner if what was once a rule restricting women IS NO LONGER A RULE! YOU GO CRAZY AND SMASH EVERYTHING AND SHOOT PEOPLE! Or, wolverine-like, you turn on the computer, clicking here and there, typing this letter and that in order to post something on the internet.
It’s tyranny, pure and simple, whether you believe in abortion rights or not.
I do not believe it's tyranny to one day be able to do one thing and the next day be able to choose between two things. Call me crazy.
And in a free country, tyranny makes men mad and will ultimately be answered with bloodshed.
In a free country, tyranny makes men write crazy sentences that make no sense but can be loosely construed as dangerously nuts!

Frankly, the thing that pisses me off to the point where I essentially run and hide to try to avoid even talking about reproductive rights is the absolutely fundamentally wrong framing of the argument.

Yes, by almost every party.

This isn't about fetuses, or god, or murder, or little angels or tormented souls or even, at it's core, medicine.

This is about an overwhelmingly male controlled system that seeks, through legislation and LAW ENFORCEMENT, to limit the decisions a woman can make around giving birth to a child. Her child.

No matter what you think a person is, or what god thinks, or what constitutes murder, you either fall into a category that can see nothing wrong with doing whatever is necessary to avoid ceding control of a woman's most intimate and personal decisions because you think she is some kind of property to be managed, or you recognize that of all the various wrongs that can be committed in the tear-stained arena of human reproduction, to take this decision out of the hands of the primary stakeholder would be the worst of all...

Justice Blackmun killed George Tiller as surely as if his black-robed zombie corpse had pulled the trigger itself.

Also, Fred Clark debunks myth (repeated by Glavin) that Roe v. Wade radically politicized evangelicals:

ZRM, all good moderate zombies should be shouting from the rooftops their denouncement of the actions of Zombie Blackmun.

it actually stripped them of their most important right: the right to elect legislators who make the laws they want.

At first this struck me as a tad hyperbolic, even silly. Then I realised that a clause to this effect must exist, somewhere in the vault copy of the Constitution, to explain the outcome of Gore v. Bush.

Right now there'd probably be a groundswell of support for a law requiring the perpetual spanking of all Bush family members, yet the "law" prevents us!

The law is an ass, why can't we strangle Dick Cheney with his own entrails!!!???

Capcha tells us that the new nickname for elderly relatives is graps. Yes, Burt Prelutsky, this means you!!

There are actually technical reasons for this as beneath Cheney's skin there is nothing but a corrosive black ichor which when released hardens into varied asymmetrical and unspeakable monstrosities which drag themselves towards any nearby patches of darkness, shrieking with the pain of existence and hungering for the flesh of the living.

The last worst crime, the bottom obscenity they carry in their darkest heart, the last, most foul perversion, is what they accomplish in the souls of the believers, and also in the souls of their most committed enemies.

They make me want to take out my guns.

They make me WANT them to bring the fight to the streets. They make me want to be the very goddam thing I have spent forty years screaming I AM NOT!!

If the phrase "be careful what you wish for" ever had real resonance, perhaps there is someone who can invite them to take a step back from the brink.

Because to step over is bring down the things none of us ever wished for...

They make me want to call a polecabb

The thing is that the guys who actually swallow the rhetoric are, more often than not, troubled nuts. The yellers do not command an army, they're just loud enough to motivate some sorry souls who are few in number.

There's not gonna be any fighting in the street. Unless of course that economic collapse really gets moving...

Are you suggesting that Klavan is not so much insincere when he uses the language of militarism and violent confrontation (like he thinks he's a combination of Kipling and Rupert Brook), more that he has no idea what he's talking about?
I am shocked.
