Happy Birthday to You! [John J. Miller]There is a smidge more available at the link. Masochists only.
Today is the birthday of the late Dr. Seuss. (Have you seen Google yet?) He certainly wasn't a conservative. The Lorax is a parable of anti-capitalism and The Butter Battle Book is a peacenik's morally equivalent take on the Cold War. Even so, I've always maintained that his book I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew is deeply anti-utopian. Others have extracted a pro-life rallying cry from Horton Hears a Who: "a person's a person no matter how small." And a few have detected anti-socialist themes in Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose.

(Baby with Candy) - Baby = Candy for Me
Crazy assholes with a bong always come up with some dumb fucking idea. And then there are crazy assholes without bongs:

Geisel said nasty things about the Japanese and about Japanese-Americans, so he's ours, you dirty liberals, all ours, and you can't have him.
Who's next? Maurice Sendak, William Steig, Esther Averill? It doesn't really matter as they all are at heart conservative authors, although I would like to see a Corner discussion on how Jenny Linksy is a conservative icon.
So far, no one at the Corner has mentioned Fox in Socks because they can't handle it!
This will soon change, however, now that Michael "Wheels of" Steele has moved the party off the hook.
Linsky.
I'll stop now.

This is odd, because Fox in Socks has the clear message that violence is useful to shut smarty-pantses up.
to be fair, the Lorax is an inherently conservative story... in the sense of conservation, of not being profligate. which is, of course, of no interest to these people.
Also, I think the Sneetches and The Zax are both stories with some relation to the modern Conservative Movement....
to be fair
Now hold on there mister.
All those thinks you can think? Don't think them.
Fox in Socks has the clear message that bricklaying girlies are sexy.

(Fish in barrel) + handgun = fish au gratin for dinner tonight.
You know that turtle way down at the bottom of Yertle's stack, the one named Mack? That's right, he went John Galt.
It's the chicks with Glocks that get me going.
IIRC, the entire tail-based economy of Katzenstein crashed because Zooie Katzen-bein was encouraged by his union to demand unreasonable job conditions.
We can dismess the Yertle story, which clearly conflicts with modern turtles-all-the-way-down cosmological theories.
The Great A'tuin would not disagree

And a few have detected anti-socialist themes in Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose is one of the best lines I've ever read in my life. Best in a really sad sort of way.
It was the men from the socialism-detector van.
