The Bees of November

The sign is relatively readable for a night shot, but the file's very very large to enable that.

  4. Yesss. It worries me when I see bees so seldom. I got the heirloom Bee Balm seeds, and they seem to adore all the herbs in flower, as well. I kinda want to hunt down some clover to plant around the container garden, too.

It makes me sad that there is so little insect life around here. The only thing I've seen that's close to a butterfly is the single cabbage moth that takes the same flight through my garden every day.Every once in a while we've spotted an actual butterfly with color on it, and it's invariably dead.

When I was a kid, we could spend the whole day finding bugs and identifying them with our little golden notebook of insects. Kids around here just have a patch of grass with a mote of splinters (bark dust) around it and a couple of flies and things I call fly-bees.

Every generation is born to a deader planet and they don't know what they're missing.

Ours in particular. I know more than half a dozen naturalists my age that are spending their professional lives studying the catastrophic population collapse of their object of study. Shorebirds, waterfowl, batrachians, bats, groundfish; at least the salmon and sea turtle folks knew what they were getting into, the dwindling.

  6. The license plate is also readable. :)

The bees are welcome to all of my berry bushes, and anything else that grows relatively pesticide-free in my yard. I say relatively because I know all the yards around me use them without discretion.

Best goaltender in the history of the sport. Not a single ball can escape him.

  12. Oh wait, he's a midfielder. Kind of a ball-hog then.

    HEY!

You're kind of on my turf here. I usually write the sad, hopeless, depressing posts.

Now I got nothing but half a bottle of Sailor Jerry's and sense of impending doom...
