Yeah, I've never seen the huge deal about Pearl Jam, although I've liked some of their stuff, particularly the semi-acoustic Benaroya Hall. Seen em live, too, and the sound is a muddle at best.
The first album really just left me cold, still does.
Though that song did not much do it for me, I must say that I agree about Pearl Jam. However, and at the risk of incurring the wrath of M.B., I say this in large part because because I think Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and STP's music holds up so much better.
I plead ignorance. Other than that Nirvana song that sounds like a Killing Joke tune, I wouldn't recognize anything from any of those bands, so they all must suck.

Eddie Vedder is popular...
ReplyDeleteEddie Vedder did a ukelele album?
ReplyDeleteI don't know if that makes me like him more, or mock him more.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I saw most of those bands at the time and it seemed plain that Pearl Jam was a contrivance in comparison.
ReplyDeleteThe song above is from 1972 and is apparently prog/folk, which is amusing.
prog/folk, which is amusing.
ReplyDeleteDid you ever hear Ultrasound?
prog/folk, which is amusing.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Ant Phillips rings a bell?
I never got the fuss over Pearl Jam. I liked "Evenflow" and "Alive." And THAT'S IT. I found a lot of their stuff sort of tedious.
ReplyDeleteI thought those two borrowed their riffs from Soundgarden songs, so I was down on them.
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember a drummer leaving because he wanted to have FUN.
either that or he exploded.

ReplyDeleteMudhoney was the good half of the Green River split, Pearl Jam being the bad, and they did a Hate the Police you might like.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Ant Phillips rings a bell?
ReplyDeleteWe all know what kind of bell.
