Ostriches in the Krasnoyarsk Zoo

    ...so...

    My question (such as it) is:

    if 'ostrich' comes from 'bird'+'ostrich' what kind of ostrich is not a bird? ...and why didn't they just call it an ostrich?

    [NOTE this is not a riddle - I do not have an answer.]
